The Ogeechee River winds through eastern Georgia's coastal plain before emptying into the Atlantic south of Savannah. For years, its dark, low-visibility waters were worked by a small group of dedicated divers who searched the river bottom by feel for fossil shark teeth eroding out of ancient marine sediments. None is better remembered than Vito Bertucci, known throughout the hobby as the "Megalodon Man." A jeweler and gemologist from Port Royal, South Carolina, Bertucci spent nearly two decades diving the rivers of South Carolina and Georgia, and used his finds to build the largest Megalodon jaw ever assembled: 11 feet across, almost nine feet tall, and set with 182 fossil teeth. This tooth is one of his Ogeechee finds.
Megalodon teeth are no longer being recovered from the Ogeechee, which means the supply of authentic Ogeechee teeth is fixed. What's already in collections is all there will ever be, and teeth with a known diver attached are especially hard to come by.

Otodus megalodon (often historically referred to as Carcharocles megalodon) was the largest predatory shark to ever live, reaching estimated lengths of 50 to 60 feet and dominating warm oceans worldwide during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. Its massive jaws and serrated teeth allowed it to prey on whales, dolphins, and other large marine mammals.
