This 5.30" fossil megalodon tooth comes from the St. Marys River on the Georgia and Florida border. Few fossils capture the imagination like a megalodon tooth, and this one is the real thing.
Teeth over 5 inches are far less common than the 3 and 4 inch teeth that make up most of the market, and they make a true centerpiece. Compare it with similar teeth in our 5 inch megalodon teeth collection.
Age: Miocene to Pliocene, roughly 23 to 3.6 million years old
Condition: 100% natural, no repair or restoration
Specimen #: 3137

About the Megalodon
Otodus megalodon was the largest shark known to have ever lived, reaching 50 feet or more and hunting whales in warm oceans around the world from roughly 23 to 3.6 million years ago. Like all sharks, it replaced its teeth constantly and shed thousands in its lifetime, which is why genuine megalodon teeth are still found today in rivers, on beaches, and in offshore deposits. A megalodon tooth is recognized by its broad triangular crown, fine serrations, and the darker chevron-shaped band called the bourlette between the enamel and the root.
Where This Fossil Comes From: Georgia
Coastal Georgia's rivers, including the Savannah, Ogeechee, and St. Marys, cut through Miocene and Pliocene sediments that hold some of the finest megalodon teeth ever found. Divers search these dark, fast-moving rivers by feel, and the late Vito Bertucci, famous for his megalodon jaw reconstruction, found many of his best teeth here. Georgia teeth are known for jet black to gray enamel, sharp serrations, and excellent preservation. Learn more in our guide to where megalodon teeth are found.
