About the Megalodon
Otodus megalodon was the largest shark known to have ever lived, reaching 50 feet or more and hunting whales in warm oceans around the world from roughly 23 to 3.6 million years ago. Like all sharks, it replaced its teeth constantly and shed thousands in its lifetime, which is why genuine megalodon teeth are still found today in rivers, on beaches, and in offshore deposits. A megalodon tooth is recognized by its broad triangular crown, fine serrations, and the darker chevron-shaped band called the bourlette between the enamel and the root.
