Just a heads up: My wife and I are away for a week and a half on a much-needed vacation. Orders placed now will ship
on November 17. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
This 1.96" fossil Otodus angustidens tooth comes from South Carolina's Lowcountry. Angustidens is one of the direct ancestors of megalodon, with serrated cusplets that make it easy to recognize.
Age: Oligocene to earliest Miocene, roughly 33 to 22 million years old
Condition: 100% natural, no repair or restoration
Specimen #: 2517
About This Specimen
This tooth features natural fossil coloration formed through millions of years of mineralization within ancient marine sediments. The photos show the exact tooth you will receive.
About Otodus angustidens
Otodus angustidens lived from the Oligocene into the earliest Miocene, roughly 33 to 22 million years ago, and is one of the direct ancestors of megalodon. Its teeth combine finely serrated blades with sharp, serrated side cusplets, a look that sits right between the cusped teeth of earlier megatooth sharks and the cuspless teeth of megalodon. South Carolina is one of the best sources in the world for angustidens teeth, and complete teeth with both cusplets intact are especially prized.
Where This Fossil Comes From: South Carolina
South Carolina's Lowcountry is one of the richest fossil shark tooth regions in the world. Divers recover teeth from blackwater rivers around Charleston and Beaufort, where currents expose layers ranging from the Oligocene through the Pleistocene. That range of ages is why the state produces everything from megalodon to its ancestors, angustidens and chubutensis, along with Ice Age mammal fossils.
