Authentic Baltic Amber with Fossil Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) – Eocene, Lithuania

This authentic piece of Baltic amber contains a beautifully preserved fossil long-legged fly (family Dolichopodidae), naturally trapped in ancient tree resin during the Eocene Epoch, approximately 44–49 million years ago. Sourced from Juodkrantė, Lithuania, this unique specimen preserves a delicate prehistoric insect in genuine fossilized resin, offering a fascinating look into ancient forest life from millions of years ago.

Unlike modern resin, Baltic amber is true fossilized tree resin, making this a genuine fossil specimen and not a modern reproduction. Fossil insect inclusions like this are especially prized because they preserve small, fragile organisms in exceptional detail, often capturing anatomical features that would rarely survive through traditional fossilization. This specimen features a fossil long-legged fly, a slender predatory fly known for its delicate build and elongated legs, suspended in amber just as it was during the Eocene.

Measuring 12.2mm, this one-of-a-kind fossil amber inclusion is an excellent addition to any collection of fossil insects, Baltic amber, or rare natural history specimens. Its warm golden color, natural clarity, and ancient insect inclusion make it both visually appealing and scientifically significant.

Each fossil amber piece is completely unique, with no two inclusions ever exactly alike. This specimen comes in a labeled display case, making it ideal for display, gifting, or adding to a serious fossil collection.
