Since I was four years old, I’ve been obsessed with sharks. Library trips with my mom would ultimately lead me to rent another shark book to read and learn about the different species of sharks that roamed our oceans. Book fairs at school would always turn into a hunt for the next copy of National Geographic Kids magazine. Especially those that focus on marine life. I was just obsessed with anything that swam our oceans. But sharks have always been my favorite animal.
As I grew older, I started to think about what I wanted to do for a career. I knew that I wanted to work with sharks in some capacity, but I wasn’t sure how I could accomplish that dream. I started doing some research during my freshman year of high school and started my journey into becoming a marine biologist. During my sophomore year, my marine biology teacher had us read a book called “Meg” by Steve Alten. It was a cheesy, but weirdly good, Sci-Fi thriller about a 60ft shark called the Megalodon. I won’t go into details about the story, but the book not only introduced me to a brand-new species of shark, but it’s also what started my journey into creating Fossil Driven.
For the next two or three years after that, I asked my parents for a megalodon tooth for Christmas. It was an odd gift, but they were oddly supportive of it. After starting college and changing my degree to marketing, my mom approached me and asked “Why don’t you start selling these megalodon teeth yourself? You seem very knowledgeable about the shark and I can see you doing very well.” After being against the idea, mainly because I didn’t want to turn a hobby that I enjoyed into a business, I told myself “Why not? What could it hurt?”. So, I got straight to work. Starting off with researching how much I could sell these megalodon teeth for, where I could sell the fossils, networking until I found a good and reliable wholesaler, brainstorming a name, and so on. I had no idea how to run a business, but I knew I’d be able to figure it out. I just had to tell myself that It’s going to take time and a lot of trial and error. Then, at the very start of 2013, Fossil Driven was born.
13 years later, Fossil Driven is still going strong and growing. One very important thing that I told myself from the very start, and I will continue to stand by this, is making sure my customers are happy and taken care of. Going above and beyond and providing exceptional customer service will always be the priority. No matter what the circumstance. It not only helps the reputation of Fossil Driven, but it’s so important in running a successful business and I don't want to jeopardize ruining that.
I hope that you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. If you’re considering buying a fossil megalodon tooth from us or if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. Be sure to check out some of the other blog content I’ve also written.
