A very nice megalodon shark tooth from Peru. Due to the fact that you cannot export fossils out of Peru anymore, teeth that come from this location are very hard to come by. The ones that you do end up seeing on the market are teeth that have been collected before the ban and are often from old collections. This one was bought out of a big collection recently and we were lucky enough to get our hands on it. This tooth is extremely sharp with a beautiful purplish enamel. Please note that this does have some glue in the cracks to help stabilize the tooth and prevent it from falling apart. A lot of times teeth from this location can be very brittle and often need some sort of stabilization to stay together. Unfortunately, adding glue to help with that lowers the overall price of the tooth. If nothing was needed to help it, then you would be looking at close to a $2,000 tooth. This specimen would have come from an adult megalodon shark with a length of 45 to 50 feet.
